The Big Woof Travel Guide to Park City, Utah

If you happen to be passing through or posting up in Park City, our recommendations are great all year-round. (As former Park City residents, we know that the weather can vary!) Furthermore, all of these dog-friendly options are free to the public, though we do suggest supporting local business by making a purchase at Hugo’s and Dolly’s.

Table of Contents

Hugo’s Coffee

Located inside the Park City Visitor Center, Hugo’s Coffee is a great spot to hang out with your dog indoors for a cup of coffee or a sandwich. Since we moved away, Hugo’s Coffee – the coffee roasting operation – split off from the shop, but it looks like they still work in partnership.

Hugo’s Coffee is open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

Run-a-Muk Dog Park

Run-a-Muk is a hopscotch from Hugo’s and has around 2 miles of defined trails and a total of 43 acres for off-leash exploration.

If you’re passing through the area, Run-a-Muk and Hugo’s are both conveniently located right off I-80. We’d suggest making this an extended stop to stretch your legs/paws if you’re roadtripping.

Run-a-Muk is fenced in but occasionally moose find a way in. If there’s a moose in the park, we suggest leashing your dog unless trained.

Parking: Yes, free parking is available (two lots plus street parking for overflow)
Restrooms: Yes (portajohns)
Waste bags: Yes
Trash receptacles: Yes

For more info on Run-a-Muk, check out Basin Recreation’s website.

Dolly’s Bookstore

Planning to head into Historic Old Town? One of our favorite stops is Dolly’s Bookstore. (Jess is completely biased here, as she worked part-time at Dolly’s for a few months during the pandemic and generally thinks that bookstores make the best destinations.)

Two dogs on leashes explore Dolly's Bookstore in Historic Old Town Park City, Utah

Well-behaved dogs are welcome, but FYI: there are two cats that live here – including (Mr.) Dolly – so plan accordingly!

Dolly’s Bookstore is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. everyday.

Willow Creek Dog Park

If your dog loves water, we definitely recommend Willow Creek Dog Park. With designated areas for open play, an agility course, shade shelters, and a dog-friendly pond, it has a little something for everyone. (FYI, the pond is only open seasonally.) There’s a shallow entry area if your dog is newer to swimming or a bit more cautious, as well as a floating dock for eager pups.

It does get a little more crowded here on warmer days so if your dog isn’t a fan of crowds, you may want to take refuge further up the mountains for some alpine lake swimming.

Note: Willow Creek Dog Park is part of the larger Willow Creek Park, and dogs are only allowed off-leash in the dog park.

Parking: Yes
Restrooms: Yes
Waste bags: Yes
Trash receptacles: Yes

Round Valley

We really liked popping over to Round Valley on a regular basis. It’s a solid spot close to town, and offers hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing for dogs and their owners. The wide trails make it easy to go with a group too.

Most but not all of the trails are dog-friendly, so you may want to research ahead of time.

Parking: Yes, free parking is available
Restrooms: Yes (regular bathrooms)
Waste bags: Yes
Trash receptacles: Yes, along the trails

For more information on Round Valley, check out their summer trail info and their winter trail info.

Other resources we’d recommend

Since we don’t have any firsthand experience with dog-friendly hotels or lodging in Park City, we’d suggest checking out these resources:

When we return, we hope to fit a stay at the Montage or St. Regis Deer Valley into our budget, as their dog-friendly amenities look incredible!
